MASS Design Group

MASS Design Group was founded on the understanding that architecture’s influence reaches beyond individual buildings. MASS (Model of Architecture Serving Society) believes that architecture has a critical role to play in supporting communities to confront history, shape new narratives, collectively heal and project new possibilities for the future. A grant from the Thoma Foundation will support a total of four Space & Society Fellowships, two per year, over two years in New Mexico. Through the fellowship, one Native and one non-Native designer will collaborate with tribes and Native-led organizations through SNC Lab projects. Working as full members of the SNC Lab team, the fellows will have an opportunity to learn the MASS methodology, expand their professional skills, lead community engagement, conduct research, and have access to mentoring and additional professional development. Working as an intersectional cohort, the Fellows also will gain the opportunity to learn directly from each other, MASS staff, and our partners on the true social impact of design. Through their future career path, they will show the world that design and service are not mutually exclusive and that architects, designers, and engineers can put their skills to work for the public good.
