Golden Apple Foundation is a proven model that works in support of teacher training, mentoring, and retention in Illinois. In 2022, a grant from the Thoma Foundation helped fund Golden Apple’s expansion into New Mexico. From 2020 to 2021, the teacher shortage in New Mexico almost doubled, from 570 to more than 1,000 vacant educator positions. In response, Golden Apple Foundation will strengthen the teacher pipeline to become a material and long-term solution to New Mexico’s teacher shortage by developing the necessary infrastructure to launch its Golden Apple Scholars program (for undergraduate students) and Golden Apple Accelerators program (for career changers, post-baccalaureate students).
